Software and Web Development as a lucrative parnassah

October 25, 2019

PCS is launching 8th cohort of their acclaimed Software and Web Development course. With decades of relationships with many firms, PCS maintains a 90 percent placement rate. PCS spoke to A. Y. Herz, a PCS Course graduate.

Please tell us about your current position. How did the PCS Software and Web Development Course prepare you for your career?

I work in CardCash as a Product Manager. The product manager is the point person between the business, developers, and designers. When the business decides they want to create a new product/application, or improve an existing one, someone needs to turn the idea into a reality.

One common misconception about developing software is that the process starts and ends with the software developer. To build a quality product there is a ton of work that needs to happen before the first line of code is written. Gathering business requirements, creating the user experience, designing the user interface and planning the technical implementation, are all processes that are typically be done before the first line of code is written.  As a product manager my job includes overseeing strategy, creating wireframes, designing the application, user testing, and overseeing the implementation of the products my company creates.

The PCS Software Course gave me a very strong background in technology, which enables me to have a deep understanding of the product, work closely with the developers, and understand the issues that come up, to help come up with solutions.

Q: For whom would you recommend this field?

Programing is a good field for someone who is bright, analytical, diligent, creative, who likes to solve problems.

Besides for teaching programming skills, I personally believe that many jobs can gain from having a strong background in technology, such as Business Analysts, Project Managers, Marketers (SEO, social media, websites, analytics), Designers (UI/UX), – are all in demand IT jobs that don’t require coding skills.

Q: Why is it important to receive proper training from industry experts before entering this field?

It’s very hard to motivate yourself to learn something that your not familiar with, when you have very little – to no – technical knowledge. The course gives you a very thorough education with great teachers that will patiently teach every student on their level, giving you a very solid background in software development, and while nothing can compare to the experience of creating an actual project, the course gives you the skills and the know how, to then use to further learn and explore on your own.

The course is also given at very convenient times allowing you to ease into the workforce. Additionally at the end of the course PCS spend a significant amount of time and energy helping their students find good jobs. Personally I’m very happy that I took the course, and believe that it has helped me tremendously in my career.
